The Big Themes for Cloud & Hosting in 2014

A New Year’s message from First Distribution’s Cloud & Hosting Business Unit Manager, Kevin Derman:

Dear Valued PartnerMSP_2014_01

I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy New Year and all the best for 2014. This year promises to be a great year for the IT industry and particularly for our world of hosting, cloud and managed service providers.

The December/January period is always awash with articles examining the past year and making predictions for the year ahead.

Of the many I have read I have picked up on a few common themes. I have provided these below with some thoughts on what it means for our businesses.

These are:

IT Buying Power is Moving Beyond the IT DepartmentMSP_2014_04

– Selling style therefore needs to change from a technical, solution-based sale to value-based selling.

The Mystery and Fear of Cloud is Fast Disappearing

– The business of cloud is about to go mainstream which means more competition. Focus will shift from the mystery of Cloud technology to the value of the service.

Growth of the Hybrid Cloud Environment

– Cloud just needs to work regardless of where it is. Our job is to make it seamless and the hybrid approach facilitates this shift.

Massive Growth in “Third Platform” Technologies Across all IT Segments

– If you are not in cloud already, time is running out before this opportunity is missed. By 2018, IDC predicts that 90% of IT roles and revenue will be around “Third Platform” technology.

To help you grow your business we are going to be providing a Managed Service Provider and Hosting Roadshow in late January and February. This Roadshow will be held in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. We will be covering the latest news from the Microsoft SPLA Programme, VMware VSPP Programme and the Citrix CSP Programmes.MSP_2014_03

If you have considered providing a VDI or DaaS (Desktop as a Service) solution, we will be covering how to license this from a Microsoft perspective, as well as various options from both Citrix and VMware.

We will also be hearing from two guest speakers:

Theodore Watson, Microsoft’s Attorney for Legal and Corporate Affairs, on the impact of data sovereignty laws under the personal information act on the cloud business realm. Theo brings a calm reality to the fear that surrounds this hot topic.

Antoinette De Waal, PWC MSP Compliancy expert, will be discussing reporting in hosting environments and how to avoid common compliance pitfalls.

Please save the date as you don’t want to miss out on this great event and it’s an opportunity to get to know the Cloud and Hosting team.MSP_2014_02
