First Distribution held their annual Western Cape regional golf day on Tuesday 1 December 2015, at the beautiful De Zalze Golf Club near Stellenbosch.

The First Distribution Ladies Golf Launch was held at the company’s Johannesburg office on 5 August, and took place to celebrate the end of the Ladies Golf lessons – yes, the FD ladies have been getting some schooling on the great game of golf! The event also formed the kick-off to a selection process for the FD Ladies Golf team.
For the last 10 weeks, twenty ladies from First Distribution have been taking complementary golf lessons. Under the watchful eye of their coaches, the ladies have learnt everything from putting and chipping, to full swings with irons and even driving off the tee. By their own admission, it has been frustrating and challenging, but also lots of fun.
From the original 20 ladies, the group has been whittled down to a group of 10 who are now trying out for the official Ladies Team. Four ‘caddies’ have also been appointed to help the women with some tips on how to play the game, and will ultimately help with the team selection when the official team is announced in September.
Consider this then to be a warning to our business partners – when inviting our FD ladies to your golf day, don’t be surprised to see them taking home all the prizes!
First Distribution held its annual Johannesburg golf day for its valued clients and business partners, at the lush Wanderers Golf Club in Sandton, at the end of November.
First Distribution recently held its very first Western Cape-based golf day for its valued clients and business partners, at the beautiful De Zalze Golf Estate in Stellenbosch.
The day was blessed with beautiful sunshine, and those who stayed for the celebratory annual dinner were rewarded not only with fabulous food, but the chance of winning some great prizes as well.
Now in its third year, First Distribution’s annual golf day and celebration dinner carried on the tradition of being the distributor’s premier social event for the year, with a raft of industry power players (in more than one sense of the word!) supporting proceedings.
Held at the Wanderers Golf Club this year, an early downpour only served to briefly cool things down as the sun (and the humidity) emerged to show off the immaculately manicured greens and fairways in their best light.
First Distribution’s purple brand CI was out in full force as players sported smart purple shirts, whilst registration and help staff were easily identifiable in the distributor’s other colour, orange.
The course was not only witness to some surprisingly good shots (as well as some which were spectacularly poor!) but some interesting behaviour and colourful language as well, perhaps partly due to the fact that booze was freely available throughout the day’s play. Vendors kept things fun and interesting by sponsoring certain holes, with items ranging from goody bags to biscuits dunked in brandy and a wide array of shooters.
Local birdlife had to be on the lookout as well, not only for wayward tee shots, but for the golf carts manned by staff in orange shirts which buzzed up and down, delivering ice-cold drinks to thirsty players and ferrying them back-and-forth between the clubhouse and their respective holes.
Longstanding guest MC and comedian Graeme Joffe (or ‘Joffers’ as he’s somewhat affectionately referred to) was back for his third year of heckling and ensured that guests were kept amused whilst waiting for their dinner, as well as overseeing the prizegiving section of the evening.
The winning fourball prize belonged to a group consisting of Jason Barr, Clarence Beukes, Andre Human and Wimpie Slabbert, whilst the runners-up for the day were Abraham Thomas, Louis Jonck, Brian Bowness and Jeffrey Yu.
The evening gradually wound down as revellers moved to the outdoor bar area to continue drinking, socialising and networking late into the evening.
As guests gradually drifted off and weary clubhouse staff began to close-up shop, peace returned once again to the Wanderers. Whether play returns there again for the 2014 First Distribution golf day is a question which most players can’t wait to find out the answer to.
