IBM have made available an interesting webinar detailing how they support the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, better known simply as Wimbledon, in making the tennis tournament the best in the world.
Sam Seddon, IBM Client Executive for Wimbledon and RFU, explains in this webinar replay how IBM works with Wimbledon as a client, and brings its cross-platform digital support and expertise to bear in many areas.
These can be broken down as follows:
IBM hosts the Wimbledon website, which has a premium look and feel to it, in keeping with the tournament feel. The website is viewed as the digital gateway to the brand, and scores highly in its visual experience, responsiveness, its seamless navigation, and its content and context. Content plays a big role in attracting fans, and is woven into the digital and social media strategy.
Apps form a major part of IBM’s ability to provide an all-encompassing digital strategy. Big Blue has created an Apple TV app with live TV and radio, video on demand, as well as live scores to enhance the viewer’s experience. Pulling into the content strategy is the focus on user-generated content, and the ability for fans to download an app which allows them to plan their day, share highlights of their experience at the grounds and “create their own story”
Hybrid IBM Cloud
All platforms for the digital IBM experience are hosted on IBM Hybrid Cloud, providing a high level of availability and security for the various systems, and thus protecting the Wimbledon brand’s integrity.
IBM has some of the finest analytics tools in the world, and uses them to great effect in optimising its content and engagement strategy. Using its Cognitive Command Centre, it aggregates huge amounts of data and translates them into real-time alerts and generates fan-engaging insights via its BlueMix and Watson API tools. Fans love the ability to dig deeper into the analytics side of tournament statistics ,and features like the IBM Slamtracker are popular ways to increase engagement levels as well as leverage exclusive insights and predictions.
