After drawing attention to Ruckus’ new 802.11ac Wave 2 technology being put to good use in schools around South Africa in our last blog, we thought we’d also highlight Ruckus’ SmartZone software platform, which brings carrier-level wireless performance and flexibility to enterprises.
Officially released in May last year, the Ruckus SmartZone software platform provides unified software architecture across wireless LAN (WLAN) controllers, for appliance, virtualised and cloud environments offering the ultimate in deployment flexibility.
This new Wi-Fi software offers a tremendous level of flexibility, scaling up to 300 000 devices, offering single and multi-tenancy, as well as ‘WiFi-as-you-grow’ — the capability for your network to expand with and adapt to the changing needs of your business.
Ruckus claims that this new platform addresses the growing challenges that enterprises and service providers face in delivering high-performance, reliable WiFi, while also providing them with a clear path to meet constantly increasing network infrastructure performance and service requirements.
A First Distribution account manager confirmed that the Ruckus virtual SmartZone (vSZ) virtualised WLAN controller has proved very popular since its introduction, and provided great value at its price-point.
The vSZ controller is a virtualised version of the industry leading SCG-200 that makes use of Network Functions Virtualisation to enable MSPs to offer a totally cloud-based service, and can run on either an open-source KVM or VMware hypervisor.
Other products which form a family of Ruckus physical and virtual appliance controllers on the SmartZone platform include:
– Ruckus SmartZone 100 wireless LAN (WLAN) controller, the most affordable, scalable, resilient, and highest performing WLAN controller in its class.
– Ruckus Virtual Data Plane, ideal for enterprise and service provider customers that need to centrally tunnel some or all end-user data.
– Ruckus SmartCell™ Gateway (SCG) 200, the most scalable hardware WLAN controller on the market, supporting up to 10 000 access points (APs) and 100 000 clients (with a capacity of up to 20 Gbps) per appliance in a cluster architecture.
